Most probably they will try and ban you but you should only get 3-4 months I would expect. My mate got done doing 117 in a 50 and he was banned for 4 months. Just be thankful it is at the end of the summer.

Matt,

Sorry to hear about that.

There are many things that you could try if you were not stopped at the time.

It seems that the refusing to sign the form trick does not work unless you have lots of money.

You could try and give the details of somebody in a foreign country who would back you up.

You could find a friend who would say it could have been them or could have been you - not sure what would happen if you said you honestly didnt know who was driving at the time.

Apart from that cannot help any more.

I suspect a longish ban - anything over 30 over the limit is deemed very serious I am afraid (although I do not agree - it depends on the circumstances)

****e, that's really bad luck.

I also heard that anything in excess of 30mph over the limit is an instant ban. Yikes!

I've heard that if the Police can't firmly establish who was riding then no-one gets convicted, ie you get away with it. So, looks like you need a very, very good friend to help you out. You'll also need to be careful too as the cops may ask about what helmet and leathers etc you've got and try and deduce the rider from that.

You can get away without a ban if you can successfully argue that losing your job will cause you to lose your job/livelihood. For example, if you're a company rep/salesman, then you'd lose your job if you lost your license. The rational is that to lose your job would be too harsh a punishment. This works even better if you have kids. What happens is that you get the points and you get the fine, but they allow you to keep your license. You can expect huge insurance premiums though. A friend of mine managed to successuly argue this a few years ago. He had 18 points on his license for nearly two years!

Good luck,

Marc.

Sorry typo above. What I meant was:

only way you get an automatic ban is if you are twice the speed limt 60mph in a 30 zone but could try and get you with reckless driving so watch out

Matt, sorry to hear about your bad luck.
In reference to Andy's post, if you do say it was someone else driving, make sure they're insured other you can get done for allowing an uninsured rider to use your bike... My girlfriend asked a cop m8 when she got caught for speeding in her car..... Sorry to add to the nasty...

id say that u are looking at a 6 month ban, having to re-do your (extended)test at the end of it

there was a case not that long ago where a guy got the letter through asking who was riding/driving the vehicle hefilled it in but didnt sign it (by mistake)
and when it went to court, the document could not be used as evidence to prosecute as it wasnt signed & there was no legal binding to sign the document, so the case fell through due to lack of evidence, the police knew of this loop hole in the law but i dont know if they have closed it up, or will charge u for with holding information or some ******** like that, best bet is speak to a soliciter(maybe even road law orientated one)

Firstly sorry dude - this is turning into a Police state but there maybe a light at the end of the tunnel this site is full of useful information for the supposed "innocent until proven guilty" all I can say is good luck!
