Default a smoother SV - how to?

I made TREmod and TPS adjustment on my bike since last June.
Neverthless, I've never been able to get rid of that annoying on/off effect (even if my SV is actually a bit smoother). So I increased idle to 1400rpm (and may be this is the best and easiest way to minimize on/off, at the end..).

However, people with a Powercommander state they finally got rid of the annoying on/off after mounting PC. This means the engine itself can run smoothly when handled using a different mapping...

SteveNZ stated in another post around: "The main benefit of it (ieowercommander) is getting rid of just that on/off effect. Other than that it just makes the power a bit smoother overall.[...]"

So I thought: isn't it possible to remap the original ECM without spending hundred euro for a PCIII?

Leesimons suggests this: "[...]If you want smoother throttle response, better pickup etc, just go pay someone with a Yoshi box £35-50 for a remap.[...]".

Any ideas / contributions are welcome...

Where / how to remap SV?

You've probably done this, but make sure there is almost no slack in the throttle cable (easy adjuster just in front of throttle grip).
The engine is so responsive that any slack here will make the bike feel erratic, particularly when in traffic at low revs.

Nice timing on this post. Just this morning I noticed the on/off effect in traffic, not a problem when hooning.
Must go look at that adjuster. Cheers!

Also, don't forget to check your chain slack.

Adjusted mine last night (well overdue) and nearly all of the snachiness has gone (already have a PCIII )

...checking chain slack? you mean tightening the chain?

I got mine remapped a while back!
Cost me just over £50 and I got a dyno graph from before & after the remap... I gained nearly 5bhp. I haven't gone mad splashing loads of cash on it - just a Scorpion can, K&N air filter and the TRE & TPS mods... This brings me up to 83.1 bhp!

The bike feels much smoother and more responsive - so much more responsive that it can get a bit flighty under the gas!
It goes quicker (as chutz found out, much to his annoyance!) as well and even uses less fuel! (Before the remap I was getting 90-100 miles before the fuel light - now it's 120!!! )

For the little the remap cost, I would highly recommend getting this done!

Did anyone ever come up with a good explanation as to how the negatives of the TRE mod affect the bike?

Be very very careful about over-tightening the chain as this will not only wear it out extremely quickly but also cause the possible failure of rear wheel and gearbox bearings.

Although a chain should naturally be properly adjusted, it's far better to have it slightly too slack than slightly too tight even if it feels better.

Not being an SV owner (hopefully soon to be though) can somebody please explain the following .....

1. Is this "on/off" effect quite bad or hard to get used to ?

2. What is a TRE mod ?

3. I thought Yoshi was a character from Super Mario so whats he doing in your motorbike in a box ?
