Is it possible to convert a SV650s to the SV650 standard version ?
Is it possible on pre and post 2003 models ? Is it high priced and a lot of work ? I wouldn't want to only take off the fairing, but having the round headlight and the Standard's handlebar...are there any other differences between the two models ? Thanks for your anwsers and advices !! Pierre |

well on the classic shape,
Clocks are different, the clock mount is different, front loom splits into two for the clocks (not a single multi plug), cables (throttle &clutch) are longer, top yoke is different, handle bar mounts for both levers have mirror mounts on them, seperate mounting for the headlight, front indicators would need mounting, you'd need to make sure you got a headlamp with sidelight in it (as you'd loose yours), you'd also be left with the fairing mounts on the ends of the rad.(also no screw threads to fix the rad end trim to). Just about all I can think of now. Cheers Mark.

It can be done, you'll need the top yoke from the unfaired, or possibly you could drill the yoke you have and fit 'bar clamps, removing the fairing is easy enough, but you may well find unfaired clocks for the early shape bikes hard to come by, K3 on have the same clocks faired and unfaired, but the holder is different obviously. There are plenty of aftermaket headlamp brackets, and headlights too, again the unfaired lights are not that common secondhand.
It may well be cheaper in more than one way to sell the bike you have and buy an unfaired, when you're done with it, it will certainly have better resale value as a standard bike.

Thanks for the advices !
The thing is, i'm in Canada, and 2004 is the first year they import Standard version, so there won't be any affordable secondhand bikes for the next few years. I haven't buy any bike yet, but I'd really prefer the Standart to the Sport version...anyway, thanks a lot ! Pierre |

If you do decide to do it, I'd suggest keeping the faired versions speedo and revcounter because the rev-counter on the unfaired version looks like a tacked-on afterthought.
