Default Maxxis Supermax tyres.

Right I have found a tyre that will blow you away...
For the price (which was stupidly cheap) it offers the most amazing grip in the dry and more so in the wet...

You dont have to worry about road paint or grooves this tyre takes it all in its stride.
I have had a front and rear put on at the same time and it only cost me R1300 (118 pounds). I have done 2000 kilometers and it has shown no sign of squaring off.

If you guys in the UK can get hold of these tyres you should really give them a bash, you will not be dissapointed...

here is the website www.maxxis.com

Interesting this, I know BT56's very well, the "ss" was the tyre of choice a few years back ( bit hard to find now days).

I was just wondering, what your frame of reference was? the 56's need to be at the correct pressure (for you) but were good in their time.

As to the Maxxis stuff, they had a reasonable rep for off road stuff, but more dependable rather than exciting on road performance. I take it these are new(ish) to their range?

Tyre companies are always progressing with development, but I wonder how these tyres would fair against something like Avon's Azaro 3's or Roadtec Z6's ? as both out preforme the benchmark Bridgestone BT range IMHO.

Tyres are a personnel thing anyway, but judging a new tyre (any new tyre) against one 3-4 years older one(in development) seems slightly biased to me.

Perhaps these are the latest where you are? and the 56's are still the "performace" tyres to have, in which case from your perspective these maybe a better tyre.

I could also be totally wrong, and you may have used a great number of different makes and found something in thses tyres which makes them better in your eyes, but having ridden on Rennsports (1850 miles from a rear) performance wise (if not fiscally) they were the best I've used.

Cheers Mark.

Hey Rictus...

I should have stressed the reason why I was so happy about these tyres were for the price.
I have no doubt that there are better tyres out there that would most probably out do maxxis tyres.

I am a budget rider, I dont have the big money for michelin's, avon or metzelers.

I just got excited because of what this tyre offers for the price you could get them for.

As for the BT56, on the bridgestone website they even say that this tyre only has respectible wet weather performance, not the best for wet conditions. I also nearly saw my ass a couple of times in the wet and the bike was very unstable on them.

I will still stick to what I said because these tyres kick ass.

Glad to here your enjoying them, I too have been a budget rider in the past, well had little choice really, however my critirial in those day was more, Black, round and passes an MOT.

Anything which keeps you riding can only be a good thing, you'll have to update this thread and give some idea of the mileage these tyres do.

Good luck to you

Cheers Mark.

Afternoon....

I had to replace my front tyre. I asked not for a budget tyre, but not for the most expesive either.

They fitted the MAxxis.... Front end grip in the dry was very good.

I got a puncture on the rear, tyre only had a month or so life left so got a new one, thought may as well go for the matching front.

Cost - £97 fitted (rear).

Still scrubbing the rear in at the moment (Not the best weather for it), but initial reactions are that it seems to grip well.

Im still gaining the bottle to ride it harder in the corners/under braking in the wet yet, im ok, just not got it to go hard yet....

Will let you know how they fair now i have both on...

I know one thing, this Maxxis rear tyre is better scrubbing in than the old (unsure make) Macadam tyre i had on the rear at best......!

Update:

I don't like these tyres lol..... nahh, seriously though, they are horrible until you get them up to temperature (hard at 8am in the morning, living in the middle of ice covered no-where). When up to temperature, there not toooo bad, it just doesn't inspire me with confidence.

In the dry they seem to work well, but i dont like them in the wet at all, but i ride to central london so it could also be the roads.

Hopefully in the new year when it drys up a bit/heats up a bit, I can give them a proper testing.

Updates to come.....
