Default Alternative cans

Being a bit tight - that and trying to justify buying a can to 'er indoors - I keep scouring ebay for a cheap can. Does anyone know if it is worth looking at cans advertised for any other bike that can be fitted with very little if any modding?

Also I was looking at the header pipe adaptors that chewy does and wondering if they would be a good way of fitting TL/SVthou/any other bolt on cans to standard pipework?

Has anyone else tried anything like that?

I hadn't seen these, I'm pretty interested in seeing if it's viable.

End cans tend to be much the same for any bike; it's the link pipe and hanger that'll vary. Some manufacturers vary their cans from model to model, or have a small range and use the most appropriate one for each bike, but by and large they're the same.

The question is, will that adapter fit onto a chopped standard pipe?

ull need to find out the diameter of the can u wanna buy, then get a link pipe that size.

i cant remember off hand what size the existing pipe work is on the sv though.

You seem to be saying pretty much the same as I have been thinking.

I think what I need to check is whether the clamp on the adaptor that Chewy does is the right size for the standard pipework.

Does anyone know if all four stud type bolt on cans are the same fitting or does the spacing vary between bikes?

They're not all the same bolt pattern, but from memory (and chewy's site) the SV1k and TL ones are all like that, and I'm sure I've seen others.

It is 2 3/4 " diameter at the point just under the pegs (where you will want to cut it )
