Default Heated Grips and power drain against charge rate

Can anybody tell me the margins for the SV,s charge system when heated grips are fitted, running in conjunction with the normal light/running drain Basic question is how much charge rate is left to keep the battery topped up?
Secondly can you wire them up thro, an off/on via the ignition switch so they would not be accidently left on?

I can't answer your question exactly, but I've been running with my heated grips since October - use them for about 1.5 hours a day when commuting, and everything is fine. I have adjusted the idle speed to around 1500-1600 as I have a lot of traffic lights on my journey and wanted to keep the charge up - no probs so far, pinkies lovely and warm

I've not had any problems with charge, though I couldn't give you a proper figure for excess power, I have been told it's around the 100W mark.

As for wiring to an ignition switch, on the K4 there's a spare slot on the fusebox, if you don't have that on the K3 then you can use the rear light lead.

no problems running the hot hands....

had problems with the charge before on the SV but thats because of the rectifier packing up... but otherwise the battery should be able to handle it..

I've got a k3 with the "hot hands", to lazy to wire them to the ignition when I fitted them as I was freezing and I've even left them on all day at work and stupid things like that and the SV's never failed to turn over (and come to mention it, it's only ever once not started first time!)

I have fitted my Oxford heated grips to my bandit 600 with no problems, although have yet to alter the loom so that they can't be switched on or left on accidently. I just oik the in-line fuse out of it when I park it up at night to sop the kids pressing the button
