Default suzuki K4 lowers and crash bungs?

im considering getting some lowers for my K4 and am wondering about crash bungs, as in can you use them, if so where will they mount? do you have to cut the faring?

im not keen to pay £375 for some lowers and then drop it and smash them 10 mins later

any advice please.

suzuki do some that fit on the outside of the fairing but they're pricey and probably not much use unless you drop it while parking or something very slow and gentle. Normal mounting crash bungs will have to have the fairing cut around them.

Don't know if other manufacturers have made bungs for fully faired SVs.

The Suzuki crash bungs are useless at even a 5-10 mph off, as I demonstrated when I got my bike. The reason is they are mounted on an "S" bar to get through the whole in the fairings and this means that even a slow off will cause this bar to just bend back towards the frame pulling the crash bung with it and letting the indicators, lowers and/or exhaust take most of the impact. This is also one of the reasons why you don't find companies who produce quality items doing crash bungs for k3s-k5s with lowers. You could always buy a set of of crash bungs for the SV650 from someone like R&G but you would have to cut a hole in your lowers to get them to fit, which you could do but then it would not look that nice and takes away the point of having lowers.

Why suzuki haven't cut the holes on the lowers directly next to the mounting point on the frame is just beyond believe.

A bit off topic, but this weekend, I mounted lowers on my K3.

The fixation of the lowers must be the crappiest piece of engeneering I've ever seen !! I'm an engeneer myself and I guaranty you : if I make such a bad design myself, i would get fired within 10 secs. You're supposed to fit the "S" bars on two engine bolts with a torque of 55 Nm. I have a torque wrench so i thought "no problem". Problem is, you have to completely mount the fairing on the bike, turn the "S" bens into it's correct place and fasten the bolt. Problem is, there's NO WAY you can reach that bolt with a wrech when the fairing is in place !! And since those bolt are engine mounting bolts, I wanted to be damn sure the were fastened with the correct torque. So i used the method of "trial and error". Fasten the bolt without the fairing .... mount fairing. .... fits .... no ... remove fairing .... slighty turn "S" bend ... fasten bolt ..........

It took me 2,5 hours ! Normally it should take me between 40 and 60 minutes to do a job like that.

Shame on you Suzuki, shame on you. Fire the engeneer who desgined that engeneering monstrosity.
