Default Transporting a bike in a van

Guys

Seriously considering buying a bike which is wayyyy down south (im in scotland)

Would be far too long a journey to do it on the bike so have considered hiring a transit van for the weekend to do it.

Whats do i need to secure the bike safely and is theyre any useful guides online as i dont want my new pride and joy lying on its side inside a van!

Cheers guys - oh and if i get it - its an SV1k

Cheers

Interesting thread, i'm in the same predicament, but i'm north london and interested in an SV in southern scotland. I was thinking of a bike trailor, how much are the transits to rent?

I suggest you exchange deatails on the bikes you're buying and swap

Dunno about transits, but I have used bike trailers in the past. This was more than sufficient. One thing I will say is back off all the preloads (making note of the settings), then get a mate (preferably heavy) to sit on the bike and compress the suspension as much as possible while you tie it down. Use ratchet strops and make sure they are secure.

Thinking about it a bike trailer is probably better because the front wheel slots into a channel to hold it in place. Or it did on the one I used.

I fetched my dad's srx6 in the works van with no trouble. Plenty of ratchet straps and padding. DON'T FORGET A RAMP TO GET IT IN THERE!

Hi, I had to do this when I was collecting my bike. The way I did it was to rent a transit van which cost me £50 for 24 hrs. You might find it cheaper oh cus I had to phone around few places to find people that wouldn't insure me due to im under 25.

Once I had the van my next problem was thinking how to get he bike in the back I managed to get round this by borrowing some wheel chair ramps and just shuv a brick in the middle to support them abit more, by doing this I had no problem getting the bike in the back of a transit van. Once it was in there I put the bike on the paddock stand and used ratchet straps to hold it down. The bike stayed safe for the whole journey from Guilford to Birmingham.

If your a member of one of the breakdown services............get the train, when you have taken charge of the bike, phone them up and tell them you have broken down. simple
