Default Philips VisionPlus H4 Headlights...

Hey,

This is somewhat a re-post. I posted a couple weeks back about headlights. Now I have decided which I want and where to get them, etc. My only concern, I read a long article on how blue light is bad. The blue light lessens vision at night time. Are the Philips VisionPlus H4, bright white? Or have a blue tint to them? Who has the Philips installed that could give me some advice. Thanks,

Mitch

I have the vison plus in my car and they are white.

They are ok, but i think with all the top bulbs, they are much the same in the sv due to its poor light design in the 1st place.

if i'm not mistaken, the visionplus are the philips answer to the osram silverstars, which are whiter than normal bulbs but not blue. And in fact they still look quite yellow during the day.
Blue light is supposed to scatter more in moisture droplets eg fog. I can't imagine it would make a huge difference, and if it does, just drive slower in fog...

The blue light is nothing more than a style gimmick. It makes no difference to the light output. All its trying to do is replicate HID systems, of which the bluish/white tinit is a by product of the process used.

The yellow tint bulbs are great for all weather.

And yes, the Philips VP, are equal to the silverstars, and imo, the silver stars are ever so slightly better.

For refrence, heres the PIAA Kelvin chart

Hey,

So what your saying, the Philips are not much better than what I already have? I was reading that the blue hinders your distance... apposed to helping it.

Its down to the lens design of the SV that gives you distance etc. The bulb just effects the 'brightness' of the beam.

Im not sure what you have already, so cant comment. However, if you have the std bulb the 45/45, then yes you will see an improvement. For the sake of £20 or equivilent dollars, then its really not worth arguing about. Get the bulbs. However, if you can afford PIAA stuff then you will definitly see an improvement, they rock

Going completely off topic as usual :P I was driving home from work yesterday.

I met a really stupid biker who thought it was dead cool to have coloured headlight covers on his bike

This bike that I first thought I was following and catching fast had red light covers on his headlights. He is likely to get nicked as well, either that or:

There will be a big bang soon

There has been many a debate whether coloured headlight cover actually make a bike stand out or not. Showing red to the front is illegal anyway, well, showing any colour other than white to the front is illegal. I knew someone who used to have Smoked leans covers. Great but cuts down the light transmitted, and therefore makes you less visable.

Hey Mitch, try aiming the lights slightly higher first. You'd be amazed at how much difference this makes. (I parked mine in front of a wall, got a friend to sit on it, and made a mark on the wall where the top of the beam shon. I then raised the beam 1" above that mark and tried it out. I liked it enough after that that i never bothered to go higher. Just my experience......)

Hey,

Thanks for the tip Junior, I might try that first. How do you adjust the lens...?
