Default Modified in any way?

So peeps, at insurance renewal time, how do you answer this one?

I've got a rather long mods list, some simple cosmetic stuff like a fender eliminator, some more radical changes like suspension alteration.

Should I be brutal honest, or keep quiet?

I think they're referring to modifications that exceed the initial manufacturers mechanical specifications. Provided your SV's power hasn't gone up and you're not wearing 180 section rubber on the rear etc I wouldn't worry about it.

A t*pbox however is a major modification and could invalidate your insurance policy, so best to avoid.

Totally agree Jonboy

Someone mentioned that an insurance company was trying to get out of a claim because of a sticker on the fairing! Not sure how that could be upheld. But I agree with the other replies, don't mention anything unless heavy (performance) mods have been performed

Seriously, I'd tell them absolutely everything. Means any claims are less likely to go wrong, since they have no room to maneouver, and also means the parts should be covered in the event of a total loss. Might up your prices a little, but I'd rather not give them an escuse to screw me over...

CIA had to send me the special insurance form they use for streetfighters because my mods wouldn't fit in their standard form... I was left feeling a bit inadequate: "Does your bike have a) Nitrous b) a turbocharger c) a larger engine from a different model d) a compression ratio in excess of 13:1"

Still, it's quite reassuring, I know that whatever madness I inflict on my poor bike they'll still cover it "Afterburners eh? That'll be an extra fiver on your policy plus £100 admin fee"

Tell them everything. They are unlikely to increase premiums with any cosmetic mods, and most will allow 5% increase for any engine mods without affecting your premium.
