Default Biker down.......Not one of us

Left home this morning and only got as far as the end of my road, to be stopped by the police at the junction. I noticed that junction is cordoned off and a bike and helmet is lying on the ground. When the policeman came up to direct me the other way I asked about the biker. I was told that it didn't look good at all when they put him in the ambulance. I rode to work with a heavy heart and hope for the best. Knowing that the word would soon spread round the estate I phoned Mrs Ape as soon as I got into work to let her know before she was told by someone else that it was me. Sure enough by 8 o'clock people were knocking our door telling her that I had had an accident at the top of the road. Thank god I had the presence of mind to get to her first before the rumours spread.

A little later Mrs Ape phones again and says the rumours flying around are that the car that the bike hit was being driven by someone in our street and that the biker was dead. As I arrived back at the junction I stopped at the side of the road and examined the scene. The police had done all their markings on the road and with what I saw this morning it all made sense. The biker was riding along the priority road, at what speed it is a bit difficult but my guess is that he was riding maybe a little over the speed limit. He has come round a left slight bend. The car coming out of the junction from the right has pulled out to turn right. The car has seen the bike too late and jumped on the brakes, the biker has attempted to take avoiding action by swerving right to ride around the back of the car. The car in the mean while has realised his mistake and jumped on the brakes, thus leaving the only escape route that the biker had left, no longer an escape route and he has hit the rear left hand side of the car. The bike ended up just the other side of the car on the wrong side of the road.

As to the real condition of the biker I am not sure, rumours are a nasty thing so wont believe anything unless I know different. As for the car driver, it was apparently driven by one of the teenagers that live down my road, that constantly drive too fast with music blaring out and total disregard for the kids that are playing in the street. Not to proportion blame without all the facts, but probability dictates. Not impressed. That's two serious biker accidents that I know about on that junction and I have only lived here 6 months or so. The other serious one resulted in the bikers death, hopefully this isn't, wont be the second.
