Default Restoring pitted forks

Is there any way of restoring pitted forks or is it Mission impossible. I was thinking of giving them a going over with a fine wet/dry and then give em a good pasting of laquer?

They can be restored quite easily, it just takes humungous amounts of elbow grease. Depending upon how good a job you want to do, you only need to remove the front wheel and you can then access all of the fork lowers.

Wet & dry plus Autosol (or similar) for several hours, otherwise you'll have to remove them and take them to a metal polisher.

After that you have the choice of either leaving them unlaquered (which will require weekly cleaning to keep them looking good) or preferably have them professionally relaquered (i.e. don't send thewm to Suzuki) or powdercoated (a clear option is available).

Viney's got some nice pics of his ones that he did himself.

How easy is it to get the wheel on / off?

I've nothing against the polishing, and spraying is no issue - but I've never really looking into dismantling the bike before...

You are aware that the stanchion is the shiny chrome bit and not the lowers that the wheel and axle fit to?

This is true. Mike is welcome to collect a half-used tube of Autosol at his convenience.

Most grateful but you are making the assumption that my bikes last long enough to actually need cleaning! I normally just bury them int he gravel at the end of the start finish straight and walk away, well, get stretchered away...
