I was recently riding with all the boys and my bike started making a sort of ticking noise? Sounds more than a ticking but less than a knocking if that makes sense? It doesnt do it in neutral but only when in gear and moving, but it doesnt do it at low rpm but at the mid range and higher. Someone told me that with the v-twins if you over rev them too often that there is a possibility that you could bend a valve. Has anyone heard of this? I drained the oil and there were only like two sliver size metal flakes so I dont think I threw a rod or bearing. Can someone please help me!!!!????!!!!
Thanks, Damian |

I dont know anything about bending valves if you over rev them.
Mine must have bent valves if that is the case, I always use the full power. I think if you ask any SV owner, you will get the reply. "they all do that sir" |

i over tightened the chain once and i got a ticking sound under acceleration. Is it possible that you tensioned the chain before you went out?

cam chain tensioners are usually noisey, but it would do it in neutral as well, v-twins are usually noisier than inline 4's , as for bending valves by over revving, thats why bikes come with a rev limiter
![]() check your wheel bearings as well, does it get faster with speed? |

Sv's make noise, if the noise is something serious, you will know it. |

I understand that bikes make noise but I never heard this noise untill the other day. It doest just sound like a normal noise it sounds like something went bad and just hasnt gone to hell all the way yet. I havent messed with the tensioners at all so I dont think that would be the problem. It does get to a faster pace but only as fast as the revs so I think that eliminates the wheel bearings. I was riding real hard last weekend and my guage cluster recently went out so I can watch the R's. I also dont think that my bike has a rev limiter. Its the 01 SV650s. I just ripped the motor out today so Im going to go through it and see what all the fuss is. Hopefully something cheap-(Yeah right!)

your bike does have a rev limiter, they are built into the cdi, which cuts the front plug(i think) to stop it over revving, limiter cuts in at 10500 rpm or there abouts, if it cuts in at 11500 then you have an sv400 cdi in there
