Legality of headlight covers.

I know some colours are seen as worse than others in the eyes of the law. But how is the law applied?

If you attach them, but don't have the lights on, then you're not producing the wrong colour light, so the covers are just cosmetic... no worse than a bike with a daylight MOT. As long as you remove them when you want to use your headlights, should that not be ok?

Anyone know the rules?

hmm..i want blue ones on my sk3.... but my lights stay on all the time? and blue lights a big no no....

i have blue coloured bulbs in my sidelights - i had a friendly warning about the local plod from my dealers when they serviced it. Funny thing is, as soon as the lights are on they go all yellow

I have blue cover son my 02

to protect from stones etc
have my lights on in the day with them on no probs

just whip em off if I am out at night and they go under the seat wrapped up !!

not been stopped YET in the day !! ......... oops didnt realise ...thght just had the cntre white light on....won't happen again.....!!??

Lighting regulations state that your side/ headlamps should be either white or yellow........any other colour than this is illegal......

I have been running "amber headlamps for about 8 months without a problem. I've had a traffic cop give me a funny look as I've gone past, but I think I'm on that edge of "to be pulled or not to be pulled".

I chose amber as it matched the bike, but it's about being seen. More drivers notice the different colour when you come up behind them. Blue is a deffo "no no". Police don't like non emergency vehicles having blue lights. Topcat runs yellow ones on his yello blade and has not had a problem. They are also great in a rideout, either myself or TC sit at the back so it's easy to pick out the last bike.

i have to agree, it stands out a mile. If i was getting headlight covers, amber isn't a colour i would have considered, so i'm surprised at just how good it looks.

Correct me if I'm wrong (Fraser!!??) but are you not allowed blue front facing lights now any way, as long as they are not the main lights and not the only visible colour (or some such!)??

This, I would imagine, is due to the Xenon headlights on the market nowadays that look blue any way, so blue was made legal. You now see tons of HGVs with blue lights in the top section of their front window!

agreed they are definitely visible. Just very small and a little tricky to tell which indicator is on at a glance + reasonable distance. Not as visible as all the SV indicators that were around you :P imho, of course

its a sweet looking bike. I can see why you don't want to spoil it with big winkers.
