Hope admin will allow this to slip under the radar as it is not strictly Sv related!
![]() Ok cutting a catalogue of frustration short. I need to remove the clutch centre hub on my bike to fit a new item. There is a Ducati special tool which I do not have. Those of more mechanical experience than me do you think this would work to keep everything still to allow me to both undo the centre hub nut and then to torque it back up again? Bike in 6th gear and someone standing on the rear brake? Is this going to be sufficient to keep everything still for the nut to be undone and re done? Desperate for your thoughts here guys! ![]() ![]() |

It's possible, but by no means certain, the problem is that even in a high gear the clutch still has a significant mechanical advantage over the rear wheel. When reassembling it will be a problem holding the clutch centre sufficiently still in order to get the correct torque settting.
You could certainly give it a go, but be prepared to fail, and whatever you do don't even consider sticking something in the rear wheel to stop it turning, Ducati wheels are very soft alloy, it'll be damaged for sure. PS Sorry but not being SV related it has to move, no exceptions etc etc.

Well purely as something to pass your time, here is how things panned out....
Local dealers no help at all, kept getting told about special tool this, extractor that. Decided to really ponder what I was trying to do and use some of my previous mechanical knowledge and engineering background. Ok to undo the clutch hub centre nut which is torqued up at 185Nm the method was this.... One quite hefty chappie to sit on bike and press rear brake.Gearbox in as high a gear as poss. Another guy to keep the socket pressed in position on the nut which is only about 6mm thick. Me with torque wrench extended by a humungous length of box section that fitted over the wrench. two go's and that baby was undone! Hub removed and carefull to observe order of bits and bobs coming out. Cutting it short, everything thoroughly cleaned, smear of grease on all O rings and seals plus mating parts when refitting with new items. Then we got to where all this started.....Ok if I know get to fit my new red pressure plate, springs and cups? All done now and looks a treat.Have tried a few start off's just in the garage and all appears fine.Test ride in the morning to ensure no clutch drag and to fully confirm clutch lever action. This has been very frustrating and stressing, but a great learning curve about the bike. I can now remove all the fairings, and strip out the complete clutch in about 5 mins flat! ![]() ![]() |
