Default regulator rectifier

mines dead. GS500 one on e-bay. Anybody know if it will work on '99 SV650S?

It will work but IIRC the wires colours/connectors are different, (don't rely on that I can't remember exactly), but if you fit it as long as you keep the red and the black, (+ & - respectively), connected like for like, the other wires, (alternator phases), can be connected in any combination.

The SV reg/rec is known for failing, but before you spend any money on bits you may not need, check the tests I described here, and here.

Default electrics

intersting stuff that sid. problem is that my bike won't run. battery says 13Vdc across it's terminals. 13Vdc between the + terminal and any fastener on the frame (I think that indicates good earthing?) - and yet, nothing happens at all - no lights on the dash - not even a faintly discernible click when I hit the starter. It starts instantly with a jump from the car, but as soon as i take the jump leads off the battery terminals it dies. can it be that the battery is knackered, even though i'm reading 13Vdc across it? incidentally - i have checked all those readings with a different multi-meter, so i've eliminated that from the enquiry. even if the battery is knackered - shouldn't the bike still run on the generator once it's jump started from a car? i found the connector on the red cable to the rectifier to be burnt, so i replace it (with individual crimped connections) - but to no avail. that is what made me suspect the rectifier - apart from my ignorance of all things electrical except that rectifiers are common culprits. got any suggestions?
