Fortunately I don't mean me in a pair of swimming trunks.
Picture the seen, left Donnington Park, after a fine display of wet weather riding by VR, heading for home, with the heavens still open. Travelling on the M42, look down at the speedo, to find I am only doing 15 MPH. Actually in top gear at about 6,000 rpm, which I estimate is about 80mph (Sorry officer I meant 70mph). The speedo then fluctuates all over the place and finally settles on 0mph. I’m no physics graduate, but know I am doing a tad more than zero. After about 5 miles it flickers back to life, only to die about 3 miles later. Over the next 20 miles or so, the speedo goes on and off about 12 times. However, once I reach Oxford (where the weather if not my kit) is now dry, it settles down and works fine the rest of the way home. Has anyone else had this problem in the wet and is it something I should worry about (apart from when near speed cameras)? |

A similar thing happened to me this week, don't know if it is the same. I was on the motorway looked down and I was doing zero. Later on that day I set off again and it worked but only for about 10 seconds. It is my speed sensor rotor that has broken down in the front wheel. I think the guy who fitted my tyres done it. You will need to take off the front wheel to confirm this is the issue. Mine is a K4 just in case it is different on other bikes.

A similar thing happened to me, I was stationary at the tradffic lights but the dang speedo said I was going 186mph and my odometer was counting up like crazy. this went on for about a week, sometimes it worked other times it stayed at 0. Turned out that the sensor on the hub and the sender cable where all corroded. £156, cha ching!!.
