Default End of Frith Street??

anyone turn up later and not get kicked out by the nazi wardens?

we were and those of us who were there went to Chelsea Bridge. Somehow I suspect a few tickets are winging their way to a few of us despite being told they wouldnt issue tickets if we moved.

and given they were in force and with cameras they seem to mean business about not allowing us to park there.

if this is the case then some suggestions as to alternative locations need to be put forward. apparently the Islington massive isnt a popular suggestion with some :P

we went back, loads of bikes there, apparently the police had been called to move other bikers on, but had gone by the time we got there the second time.

Stayed there till gone 11pm, loads more bikers arrived, no sign of the wardens.

It was like this a while ago. We had a um "discussion" with five wardens and didn't move until their head honcho got a police officer who explained that we could stay, remove our coats to make the plates visible and get a ticket or leave now. We chose the latter, well after I finished my coffee.

We parked in Soho Square and wondered where everyone was. Eventually the remnants came back from the Bridge and we moved our bikes back into Frith St. No more wardens.

So no, it's not the end off Frith St, just the wardens flexing a bit of muscle. I'm sure next week will be fine. If there's more of us and we all refuse to leave it will make our case stronger and they'll back off, providing they don't get police backup like tonight.

On the upside, a driver of one of the pedal taxi buggies got arrested and driven off in a squad car because he wouldn't move his buggy .

I still think this is the beginning of the end personally. Rumour has it that they are widening the paths and having it as a single lane road.

I guess there is always the possibility of parking on the extra wide path then, but some how I don't think this will work.

We'll have to see how it goes for the next few weeks...

I personally hope that I do get a parking ticket (even though one wasn't issued) - we had an expert witness in terms of the police officer as well who saw that one were issued, and there were 5 traffic attendants (not wardens, it is decriminalised) including one supervisor. Would be an interesting time if that one came up.

Just out of interest, if you have a ticket/Notice to owner and haven't done your representations yet, this might be of interest....

the pavement widening thing is a rumour only, frith st was temporarily narrowed a week or two ago for a demonstration.

Of course, if Westminster Council do propose to make changes to the road layout, they will have to issue a public notice to that effect and probably consult on the matter. They ought to attach notices to the adjoining lampposts and publish in the local paper and on their website if they wish to go ahead. I can't be bothered to look up the planning law, but I'm sure you've all seen the process before.

So let's keep an eye out before jumping to conclusions, and if it is mooted officially then we can make representations in the proper manner - I'm sure we can come up with a campaign letter citing a decades-old traditional meeting place, local attraction, not doing any harm to anyone etc.
