Default fitting 12V power supply?

I've got a sat-nav PDA that I use in the car that plugs into the cigarette lighter and I'd like to use it on the bike too (and hook it up to the bike's battery). Will this put too much strain on a bike battery? And can I just fit a standard car cigarette lighter type adaptor to the bike, or does it need a special one (e.g. waterproof)? If the latter, where can I get one?

Has anyone else done this with an SV, and if so, where did you fit it?

Thanks in advance!

I've just this past day fitted a socket to my Hond@

Maplins, £7-99, waterproof and made in Sweden to marine spec. Code WD68Y.

Sounds a little pricey but it is a nice thing. It takes 1/4" flat blade connectors on the back which is nicer than other types. Don't forget you'll want to supply it via a dedicated fuse, the socket is rated at 6A so I used a 5A slow blow fuse (so it'll handle the startup of compressors etc without problem).

I wired mine from a permanent supply via a separate toggle switch (with waterproof boot, also from Maplins) so you can leave stuff charging without the ignition on.
