Default Aberdeen and back

Hi all

I'm going to visit my sister in Aberdeen on wednesday, but I'm not going directly there. I'm going with a couple of mates, and we should be away for around 6 days. I was hoping that if I write down our route that people would be able to point out any great bike meets or places to eat or visit.

I'm leaving London on Wednesday afternoon/evening and heading up to Liverpool. Thursday morning we are hoping to go through the Peaks & The Lake District, staying at a b&b around The Lake District.
Friday we are going to try and get all the way to Aberdeen but we don't want to use the motorways all the time.

We are going to stay there until Sunday afternoon, then head down to Glasgow and stay at a relatives house. Monday we are hoping to ride down to Stafford and maybe go out that evening too.

Then Tuesaday we need to be back by the evening so we will probably either make our way back early or go somewhere if we have time.

So any advice on best places to go etc? I know the route probably doesn't make that much sense but its mainly that way so we can stay at families houses to save money.

Thanks.

Some excellent roads up there. Once in Scotland just avoid motorways.
Regards eating I've always found 'The Horn' at Errol - just off the A90 between Perth and Dundee to serve a good bacon roll. You need to come off the A90 but it is well signed as I recall. BTW if you are using the main route Dundee to Aberdeen watch your speed it is littered with speed cameras and is a well known racetrack for neds (the scottish equivalent of chavs).
A scenic route I have used is a bit longer and misses the Horn.
Glasgow - Crianlarich A82
Glen Dochart A85
Killin A827
Aberfeldy
Pitlochry then the A93 through Braemar and on to Aberdeen.
A bit of a long short cut but some excellent scenery and good roads.
Hth

Edit :- I think the road numbers are correct but its a wee while since I've done this route but they are very close.
jealous as I'm going up that way in a couple of weeks but will probably have to take the car.

On the way back down make sure you take the A6 across Shap - what's Carlise to Lancaster - fantastic climb over the hill.

Agreed - A82 is a cracking ride, and once you get near Gleancoe, the scenery is the most stunning you will find in the country
