Hi.
Im starting early to plan for the sumemrs bike hollidays ![]() I was thinking that my gps / phone might run out of batteries, and since i use it as an mp3 player it might be nice to be able to charge it anywhere. Is there a simple way to manifacture one of thouse car adapter sockets for bikes? Anyone of you clever lot done it? If you have, where on the bike did you place it? Very interested to know about this. |

i got a car cigarrete lighter from maplin and ran it straight to the battery with an inline fuse. did it so that the socket was under the pillion seat

My local motor factor did one, including fuse holder for a couple of squids. I had to make a bracket, to mount it and it's got no 'not in use' cover, so I have to be careful when washing the bike.

Inline fuse?
I saw they had them at maplin so im going down there after work to get one. I thought i would get a switch as well, so i can turn off power to it. I reckon i will have it under the pillion seat so it keeps try. And i can just turn it off when im not using it via the switch. Anyone have any sugestions or see anything that can go (horribly) wrong with this? Im not really that clever on these things as you can see, but taking two cables from the battery to a switch to a socket can't be that hard, can it? |

I have an optimate connector permanently fixed to my battery I soldered an appropriate connector to a spare phone charger, it works, although not very pretty and no holes or brackets needed on the bike. The fuse is in the charger.

I've got one fitted to charge my ipod when on the move. Mine wire runs up under the tank and into the space under the front fairing. It's held there with a clip I stuck to the underside of the plastic. That way I can run the charging wires to my tank bag easily. I also have the phone and music input wires for my autocom done in the same way. That way I can place the phone and ipod in the map pocket and be able to press the buttons.
I've not had a problem with water but I don't ride in the rain often. |

I had one to run an inflatble pump for my airbed. Again liek others, under the rear set and mine was mounted in one of the large holes ont he seat lock cross member.
