Default Another price query...

Seeing as you lot are very helpful and (seem to) know what you're talking about I have another quick Q... I may even contribute something more meaningful to a thread at some point but...

I'm planning to buy private, 2001 Y reg SV650S 33,500 miles. FSH, not Suzuki, but regular. seems to be in good nick with minor scratches on the body work etc but no more than you'd expect from daily commuting and age of bike. Alarm immob / Alphadot / fender extender are the only mods. does £1,700 sound about right?

Sounds OK to me.... Anything below £2k for a 5 year old bike isn't bad, especially as some of us do 15k a year anyway, so 33k is quite good for an SV of that age.

I've got a 2000 SVS on an X plate. its got 34,000 on it, Full Suzuki Service History.

I got offered £800 Part ex by a dealer the other day for it, also got offered £1500 by a different dealer

I'd try and knock him down a couple of hundred if I was you

How much life let on the tyres , chain/sprockets , brake pads. When were the valve clearances las checked. I'm not sure but I think they should be checked every 16,000.

I would go with fizzwheel and offer say £1400 for starters making sure you let him know an mate of yours got offered between £800 - £1500 in part exchange by a dealer. Plenty more bikes out there.

Cheers
Ben

Oh and if it helps, I've just had my bke serviced. I had new brake discs and pads on the front.

The chain and sprocket are going to need replacing in the next 2000 - 3000 miles or so, It has a newish set of Metzler Z6's on it.

I think the thing to remember about dealer part ex's is that it depends on the bike you are trading yours in against. So dont take these values as gospel.

I'd get onto biketrader or somwhere like that and see what you can find thats equivalenent to the bike you are thinking about buying and see how the prices compare.

cheers.

Tyres both have plenty of life as they're relatively new, not sure about the chain or valves???!!! he's got a scottoiler fitted and the chain looks in good condition but I'm not the most mechanically minded fella in the world.

Last service was in November 05 and he's getting it through the MOT at the weekend. would the chain be flagged on the MOT if it needs replacing?

He seems a geuine guy and does seem to have looked after the bike well so don't want to take the **** but I'm a newbie to the biking lark and didn't want to pay over the odds.
