You'd think I'd learn from past mistakes and get stuff sorted well before I need them.
Anyway, went to change the oil on my 2002+1999 SV-S that have been sitting for a couple of months now (was intending to do a trackday earlier). I've had race bikes in my garage before over winter and never had a problem. It's attached to the house, so doesn't get too cold. Anyway, oil seemed to be rather seriously 'mayonaisy' when I drained. Topping up coolant sees it coming straight out the oil drain. We're not talking dribbling out, but flowing almost as fast as I pour it in. Not good. I have had a search around on here, but couldn't find anything relating to this situation. Any ideas? Is this is a common problem? Any easy fixes ![]() G |

When they were last used in December I had checked oil/water and it was fine.
Only thing I can think is that they are more susceptible to freezing than other bikes, so maybe both bikes had frozen water which managed to crack something. |

If they had coolant in, then it usually contains antifreeze... There's quite a few gaskets that could cause that contamination, but for it to be such a major flow? No idea.

As you state it had no anti-freeze in it, it does sound like a cracked block. If you are really lucky it is just a head gasket, but … it’s more likely the block dude … new engine time ![]() |

You really need to see exactly what's gone. There's a fair few coolant flowing areas that are replacable, if the main casings are cracked then that's probably dead but if it's elsewhere- inner clutch cover mabe? Then it might not even be very expensive to fix.
PS if they're dead, but you find a crank in good nick, I might be tempted to take it off your hands ![]()
