Default We will be landing at... :)

I love the Ryan Air statement:

Ryanair said in a statement it was due to an "error by the Eirjet pilot who mistakenly believed he was on a visual approach to City of Derry airport".

Eirjet? Don't they mean Eejit?

A mate of mine was on a RyanAir plane to the UK.
It was not in the best of shapes by all acounts. So, they were rattleing down the runway before the take off run, and the plane was making loud alarming shaking noises. The people are all looking around nervously at this point, and the noises are increasing dramatically as the plane is coming near take off speed.

Then the pilot comes on, "Alright folks...",he shouts, "LETS TRY AND GET THIS BUCKET OF BOLTS INTO THE AIR!!!", as he throttles up, and heaves the plane into the sky, banking hard.

My mate was saying he has never seen a group of people so shocked and traumatized looking before in his life.

"The airstrip at Ballykelly is primarily used by Army helicopters and light aircraft. It was built for huge military planes, making it one of the longest on the island.

It is not yet clear how the plane will be removed from the Army base."

Now is it me, or is someone being just a bit thick here?

I cant understand how such a thing could actaly happen

Surley ATC (air traffic control) would have been in contact with him to give him cleaance to land etc and what runway to head to.
I guess its licky the Irish are so chilled cos i'm sure if he tried to land at a yank base they would have shot him down.
And then asked a few questions.

How mad.

Ah now, in fairness, the lads were doing their best to shoot them down, but unfortunatley our shooting down planes gun was still being driven over from Ballyhaunis.

It would have good to have a transcript of ATC there.

Jaysus Mick. That lad's flyin fierce low there altogether.
He is. Wheels down and all.
Anyway, you were saying, the how much were you lookin for those sheepdog pups?
Ohh, now, thats hard to say.
Go on. 40 Euro for the lot.
Would ya feck off. 40 Euro each.
Jaysus.
What?

Where did that feckin Jet come from. That wasnt there a second ago.
What jets that then? Oh, bloody hell. Where did that come from?
Michael. We are under attack. Now, where's that anti aircraft gun.

It's not as daft as it sounds. Whilst there may be room to land the jet, the length of runway required for takeoff is quite a bit longer due to the need to have a margin for error in case of engine failure before rotation (V2 in pilot speak) - ie. the point at which the wheels leave the deck
