Default Chesil Beach Coast Run - Saturday 15th April

Meet at Riders in Bridgwater 10:30 for 11:00am Departure

Directions here

http://www.riders-bw.co.uk/contact.htm

Theres a café there so you can grab a brew and a bite to eat before we leave if you leave yourself enough time. Its about 45minutes down the M5 from Bristol for all you guys in that neck of the woods.

Before we leave if you want fuel please let me know as if your tank is empty we can stop for Fuel on the way out of Bridgwater. I can plan a fuel stop in half way round if necessary.

Some of these roads have some sharp bends in them. Please be careful as a few of them tighten up on you.

I dont want to put anybody off. The roads are easy to read just exercise some caution is all I'm asking.

Route as Follows

Take the A372 out of Bridgwater and head towards Westonzoyland and then on into Langport. At the Esso garage in Langport take a left turn and then a right turn a few hundred yards up the road, Signposted “Huish Episcopi” this picks up the A372 again heading towards Illchester.

At Illchester follow the main road through the village and then pick up the A303 southbound ( Exeter ) stay on the A303 ( over one roundabout ) until you see signs for the A356 sign posted Crewkerne.

At the mini roundabout in crewkerne take a right and follow the road through the traffic lights and then take the left fork in the road following signs for Misterton on the A356. Also signposted "Station" A few miles out of Crewkerne turn right at the crossroads sign posted “Beaminster” Follow the A3066 through Beaminster towards Bridport.

Entering Bridport go straight over the first mini roundabout. Go past a supermarket I think its Summerfield on the left. Then straight over the next big roundabout by the car dealership and follow sign posts to Westbay at the next roundabout take the first Exit left, signposts Burton Bradstock B3157.

This takes along the coast above Chesil Beach if the weather is clear theres some nice views along the coast out across Portland.

Watch out in Abbostbury as there is the mother of all sharp left hand hairpin bends in the village. Its not unusual for cars to cut this corner. Just be careful.

Follow on this road, Theres a nice pub with a decent tarmac carpark in Abbostbury that we can stop at for lunch so I suggest we stop here. The pubs called "The Kings Head" and the entrace to the carpark is off a righthand bend just before a Texaco petrol station.

Follow the B3157 passing through Chickerell and on into Weymouth.

In Weymouth turn left at the lights ( Major Traffic crossroads ) and follow the signs for Dorchester A354

At the roundabout on the outskirts of Dorchester by the football ground take a left. Follow the round up the hill and take the 3rd exit ( but its actually straightover ) signposted A37 / A352 Sherborne. Dont Follow the A35 to Bridport.

For those of you that are interested this takes you round the ramparts of “Maiden Castle”

At the next roundabout take a left and follow the A37 signposted Yeovil. After a few hundred yards take a right turn to follow the A352 towards Cerne Abbas.

Care Needed some of the bends on this bit are Gravelly

Home of the famous “Cerne Giant” which you’ll pass on your right handside. We can stop here if you want a better look but it’ll be crowded and the carpark is only small.

Stay on the A352 all the way through Middlemarsh and Longburton ( watch for police here ) to Sherborne. On entering Sherborne go over the railway bridge by the rubbish tip. Follow the road round and then turn left DON’T FOLLOW THE SIGN FOR TOWN CENTRE, head towards the A30. Through the traffic lights by a pub called “Skippers” and then at the next set of lights turn right onto the A30. Follow the road and at the next set of lights turn Left onto the B3148 signposted Marston Magna. Follow this road. ( again this can be gravelly in a few sections so be careful )

At the Marston in turn left onto the A359 and follow the road to Mudford.

Follow the road through Mudford and back into Yeovil. The road will rise up a hill and you'll pass a pub on the left. At the top of the hill the road curves to the left and theres a junction on the right, turn right into this road "Combe Street Lane" and follow it. At the first roundabout you come to take the 3rd exit back onto the A37 Follow the A37 to Illchester. Follow the road through Illchester, The take the B3151 to Somerton. Follow the road through Somerton stay on the B3151 to Street. Before you get into street you’ll ride up a steep hill that has a crossroads at the top of it. Turn left here theres no signpost though. Follow this road past the old windmill and then at the next Junction by the Pink Pub ( I cant remember its name ) take a left onto the A39 heading towards Ashcott.

Follow the A39 all the way back into Bridgewater. Theres a turn off just before Bridgewater for the M5.

I will lead you all back to the start point at Riders but if you want to pop off onto the M5 before had that’s cool.

If theres a lot of us I would suggest we use the “drop off system” if theres not then when the road changes or we need to turn then I’ll slow down and group everybody up so we don’t miss the junction.

I know all these roads very well. I like to stretch the legs of the GSXR at times. So If you see me honing off into the distance don’t worry just ride at your own speed and I’ll wait for you.

I'm not expecting you to follow the route. I just wanted to post it up so if you want you can print it off incase we do get split up.

Where we have to turn off onto new roads etc I’ll make sure I keep the person behind me in my mirrors can I ask that you guys all do the same as it makes life easier and nobody gets dropped off the back. Just ride at your own speed. If when we stop you find the pace to fast. Then please let me know and I’ll slow it down.

Cheers

Fizz

Yes, and its stones are different sizes from one end to the other in gradients. The most unique beach in the Uk, probably the world!!
