Off to south of France in september, rest of group are in a car so I don't need to carry any more than essentials on the bike, so I'm considering a tankbag because -
I can lean on it on the long runs. I can take it with me when I leave the bike anywhere. It won't clutter the back end of the bike. So my question is which tank bag should I go for - I don't want something so big I'm reaching round it or can't see the speedo. It has to be well suited to a SV650S with the 'tankini' tank protector. It absolutely has to be colour co-ordinated (black). It mustn't cost the earth. Any ideas, TIA |

oxford do their sports series which is nice, but they also do a cheaper set of models oxford first or something.
have you considered a tailack- wont scratch the paint (be carefull with bungees) , wont get in the way, will carry just as much, most tailpacks become backpacks/rucksacks when you take them from the bike. Paul |

I really like the one I got from Lidl the other week and is exactly what you described if not better. Makes my oxford one look like a Chav market knock off. It is a cheap oxford one but was still £30.

I bought an oxford 1st tank bag last week, it's just the right length for my K5 tank, many are to long and push back into the handle bars as you lean on them. It is fairly small 18 litres i think compared to the oxford sports expander which i think is 40 litres. And it was only £20 compared to the oxford sports which was £90, it comes with a rain cover and carry strap and has the see through map pocket on the top.

Go to Aldi, they got some in along with boots, helmets, maps, lock etc. Tank bags look decent quality too.

I really like the Oxford Humpback one- it's really not big, you can fit 2 2 litre bottles of coke and a paperback novel in it (I've tried

Take any old rucksack, and add some bin bags and a bungy net. Water proof tail pack that converts to a proper ruck sack!
Cost: less than £5. |

I've been happy with my Cargo converti: http://www.frank-thomas.co.uk/produc.../converti.html
It wasn't cheap but its got all options covered, tank bag and/or tail pack, rucksack, map windows, compresion zip, magnets that work well on SV tank. I use a bit of webbing as I don't trust it not to scratch the tank, that works fine. Overkill if you only need something for one trip but handy thing to have...

I'm tempted by the oxford first because of it's size and the height looks just right to lean on, had a look in Aldi but not convinced with the magnets or zippers on that bag (also didn't like the speed restriction imposed by its use)
Will also probably use a rucksack/bungee combination if I need more luggage space, but that is unlikely because I can put most of my stuff in my mates car. Thanks for the replies |
