Default HRC Sweatbands

What purpose do those sweatbands serve other then for advertising the HRC brand?

From what I understand, they are supposed to catch any spillage/leakage from the brake master cylinder, not sure how true this is though.

I have seen a few bikes from the U.S with these on. I am not at all sure that they serve any real purpose at all, although I am willing to be emlightened?

Some people say it's to stop the sunlight degrading the brake fluid. Myself, I think that's one of the stupider things I've ever heard, but you never know.

I heard years ago, it's to stop the fluid spillage on screwtop m/c's. When unscrewing and topping up.

Makes perfect sense to me.
