In 2005, five roadworkers were killed and 12 were seriously injured in the course of their work on England's motorways and major A roads, the agency added.

That's from the article - I note he doesn't categorise whether these workers were killed by cars speeding, doing the limit or under, or not killed at all by passing traffic, or even killed along that stretch of Mway. now that information would put the cameras and their locations into context.

Yep. Probably all killed by drivers asleep at the wheel or something.

B: Feel free to take the pi$$ out of those have already done so..

Please, PLEASE, PLEASE add your comments and views, I think it would be a shame to let that thread die. I think it will soon be a contender for 'The MEGATHREAD'

well i work indirectly for the highways agency , so maybe im biased,

but ive worked on motorways and trunkroads for the last 18 years and the speed limit deffinately needs enforcing in road works,

IIRC that stretch of the m62 has in excess of 20000 vehicles a day on it so 18,000 out of 10, 080, 00 (approx) journeys in 18 months is actually quite a small percentage, about 0.2% ,

which means that about 99.98% of vehicles went through at a legal speed.

Now Captain, you have put your own head above the parapet. So I feel obliged to loose off a few rounds at the road works type. Please understand this is not personal.

1) When are you going to learn that roadworks cost us time, money, inconvenience. The collapsed sections of American freeways were back in place within a few months in the states after the California earthquakes. Why does it take UK roadworks so long.

2) Why don't you work nights & weekends to get jobs completed in as short a time as possible?.

3) Why when there is nobody working on sections of road is there a requirement to reduce the speed, IE nights & weekends

4) Why **** up exiting roads by adding roundabouts and traffic lights to attach new housing to existing infrastructure. Build new multi-lane roads between major routes

Being only a couple of miles from it, I can't see why so many people were caught. Two camera's, one in each direction covering a 3 or 4 miles stretch of roadworks. And both camera's were clearly visable from some distance. Are so many road users blind?
