Default £50 for a passport renewal

Does anyone else think this is a bit steep, considiering the forms are machine read anyway?

BTW this is the price for the standard 5/10 year renewal for a new photo and that it

Sounds a bit more like a tax to be, and accoriding to the passport agency they issue 5 million passports each year - at a £50-£100 a go.

Wish i ran the passport agency, it not like they can have any competion is it.

So you're objecting to paying £5 per year then?

Frankly I think thats quite reasonable still tbh. Its only because you pay for it in one go at £50 it seems unreasonable.

Though wonder if work will now pay for mine since I need one

My employers require me to have a passport. I therefore recover the cost on expenses, so cost is never been an issue

sorry but I still think it pretty steep.

I might be wrong here don't all the passport agency have to do is issue the actual document and maintain a database that dosent change very much. In that case £5 a year does sound quite steep.

Call me a sceptic but i very much doubt that the whole of that £50 pounds goes to the passport agency.

Works out at 1.36 pence per day. And you complain. Middle name Eberneezer by any chance? :P

tomjones, it also covers all the cost the Foreign office has to incur should anything happen abroad. Or would you rather be in the middle of nowhere and have no lifeline at all to legal representation/replacement of passport/other help the embassies provide?

People obviously dont realise how much it actually costs the government to help people abroad each year.

If you object, dont go abroad then. Simple.

A typical example of a 'charge' being levied by a public monopoly where the charge outweighs the reasonable cost of provision.

Still it'll be cheap in comparison to the next generation planned by Big Brother.
