Default dvd writer problems?

anyone anygood with pc's and dvd writers? ive got a liteon dvd+/- writer and no matter how many dvd's i burn they dont play on 95% of dvd players! ive try'd clone dvd, roxio 7,nero 7, decrypter, but nothing seems to work! last weekend i formated my pc incase there was a problem with the system but still no good!
it writes cd ok, and the dvds i burn play on my pc? all the software i use is telling me that the disks have been burnt ok? any ideas? my next plan of action is to bin my writer and buy another! it just pi$$es me off cuz its obviously burning something because they play on the pc and on my £19.99 cheapo alba player.

I've found that some DVD players just don't cope well with DVD-Rs.

Try burning the discs at a slightly lower speed e.g. at 8x instead of 16x, this worked for me.

Have you thought it could be the CD's/DVD's you're buying??

Are they from the same batch?

Are they all the same brand?

Maybe try buying some different/better branded discs

Not calling you a cheap skate.. just a suggestion!

Some writers just aren't that compatible with some players.

Look on http://www.videohelp.com/ to find a good one.

errrr, dunno then. Although, in my (limited) experience, the more expensive DVD players are more fussy about what dics they'll play. Case in point - my dvd player cost £40, will play dvds, dvd-r's, divx, vcds and is multi-region too I think. Mum & Dad's £150 Sony dvd player is fussy as hell, won't play dvd-r's unless they're only written at 2x.

have you got the latest firmware for the drive? your mates with the same writer might have a later firmware release. check the manufacturer's website...

EDIT, must have posted at the same time as your post.
