Anyone know of a bike being nicked with a squire chain and lock?
Just being a bit paranoid since picking up my Ninja. Attached by chain to lampost under cover. Anyone any experience of an Almax chain. Their claims are pretty impressive, however I'm a little concerned that their shock tactics over Squire chains may be slightly tainted by their will to sell their product? Anyone any views / opinions / experiences? |

According to RiDE tha Almax is best, but very heavy. I saw the satnd at the NEC last year. They used hydraulic croppers to cut the squire chains, bolt cutters for all other chains. Not even the hydraulic cutter would chop the almax.

I have 2 almax chains - until you see and feel one you won't appreciate how strong they look, they are heavy and very substantial, not to mention their sheer size. They make every other chain I've seen look like a toy.

I'm thinking of getting an Almax, especially after getting home tonight and finding that some scrote has pulled the cover off my bike.

Sems you can cut the Squire with crops, but it murders blades. Myself, I'm now of the opinion that you should either get an Almax, or a cheapy chain. Cheapies deter kids but not pros, which it turns out is what practically everything else does too, so in that light my £10 Oxford Bronze is a better buy than a £150 Oxford Monster or similiar, even though you could chew through it.
But then, the Almax's are simply too big for me to ever use, and most of the time you'll be chaining to something not very solid anyway. No point chaining to a mild steel railign with a battleship chain. There was a statistic in one of the bike mags about thefts with chains, and despite the weakness of most of them it's still fairly low. Can't remember what, exactly.
