Default Ouse bursts its banks.. Flood Warning

Flood Warning - Flooding of homes and businesses is expected. Act now!

River Ouse has burst its banks in many areas of the Ouse, with wide spread flooding in the City Centre.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/n...re/5005384.stm

This school is just around the corner from me.

I had to take the long way around to work this morning as the flood gates were shut and river embankments flooded.

Not seen it yet but no doubt my favorite lunchtime drinking establishment will be underwater (again) too.. the Kings Arms at Kings Snaith in the centre.

Why oh Why, dont they dredge the river... It would go someway to elivating this problem.

Have partaken of the odd liquid lunch there. I am well aware that flooding of this pub is generally regarded as when and not if.

It is part of the charm, down by the river. marks on the wall to show the depth of different floods.

Joe, there are plenty of other pubs in York. Be adventurous and try another. Who know you might find someone to take you to a gay bar.

Goes to route out that Electric Six CD

Have you tried the Spread Eagle?

It's a pub in York not a form of sexual activity.

Gay bar in York - Pfft - you'd be lucky mate! :P

There are loads of pubs near where i work yes, but i like the Arms as its £1.67 a pint. Where as all the others are trendy wine bars and you're looking in excess of £3 a pint.

There you go Joe, you have found your unique business opportunity. Just don't buy premises by the river

The headline you've linked reports a blocked drain that has affected a school as opposed to half of Yorkshire taking to the hills which you alluded to Am I being a bit pedantic?

At work here...not bored or anything

Or they'll have lost it before it got here because of all the leaks!

Makes you laugh... Drought down here in south where Kent water are starting to introduce Meters and not that far away in Yorkshire you have too much!

You'd have thought they'd have figured out a way to even up the UK's water levels by now?

That school is 1 mile from the river.

The local premises near the river are affected by flood water from burst banks, where as further away the drainage is all blocked up and is suffering from back flow.

You're being pedantic :P

We dont take to the hills... we enjoy the floods. We get our kayaks out and go play watersports on the race course, and you get jet skis on flood plains etc.
