Sorry for being slightly off topic, im upgrading from a sv650s k3 and was wondering what region I should aim for when buying a second hand '05 GSX-R 600 K4 with 12,000 miles on the clock? immaculate condition no drops, looked after well, needs new tyres
Please reply with what you would value it at, thanks Even better if anyone has any trade prices from the trade estimate book. |

Check out Parkers.co.uk and more importantly autotrader.co.uk for what people are selling these bikes for.
I would say above 4000 pounds for a bike like that, maybe 4,300-4,500 but thats a guess, check out those sites for more details. |

The thing to look at is the mileage, it is very high for a year old motorcycle. Also it is a 2004 bike registered in 2005, you could pick those up new for £4999! Disregard any add ons, they don't significantly affect the value of the bike! A pair of tyres is going to cost £170, is the servicing up to date? If it needs a service then that is £240 (12000 mile is a major service, if I remember).
I would be looking at £4k tops, just a quick look through bike trader on-line has thrown up several 2005 bikes with much less mileage for £4500. I would be really agressive with the haggling and start with an offer of £3800 pointing out tyres and mileage and agree at no more than £4000. For £4500 you could buy a 2005 bike on a 54 plate with only 1700 miles on the clock. Or of course for for £3850 you could buy my 2004 Falco with 4400 on the clock!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

They have a K5 GSXR-600 in my local dealer for £5595 at that price if you have extra buy a new one.
12K is a lot of miles. I would think with your budget, You'll find something with lower milleage on it in just as good condition. Milleage is a killer on bikes when it comes to selling on. If you are keeping the GSXR and dont care about resale value then OK thats fair enough. If you sell it in two years time for something else. With 12K on it already plus what you put on it. It'll be worth naff all.

5k is about right for a new one (04) so i'd guess about 4-4.5 k for that milage

i paid a tad under 3 grand for an 8 year old VFR 800, with 8000 miles on it.. on the contrary my SV is probably worth about 2500 with 3k on it and it's not even a year old.. 45% depreciation on the SV in 1 year versus about 60% depreciation on the Honda in 8 years. |

Don't forget to check the other consumables such as chain and brake pads.Chains typically go at about that mileage(£130)and brake pads cost a few quid as well.Add it all up and the sad truth is that a new bike for £5000 is the real bargain unless you get this one really cheap. My punt £3500 tops.

I was looking for something like a GSXR of that age but it turned out it was better to buy new for £4999 which is what I paid for my Kwak.
New tyres, new discs, new pads, new chain and sprockets, new rear shock, new head bearings, new brake fluid, new coolant, new oil, new filter, 2 years warranty, 1 years break down cover, 3 years no MOT's, new tax, 0 miles, never been tracked, never been abused, no wheelies, no stoppies, no engine damage from a poor run-in, no scratches or scuffs, not stolen, no outstanding finance, no major expensive service due soon plus the pleasure of having a brand new bike that no one else has ridden. Prices for 1 to 2 year old examples with 10k on the clock were going for £4000 to £4500 and I'd rather pay that little bit extra for all of the above. As above 3500 tops and then it had better be very tidy. Thats what I'd pay, clearly hundreds of muppets are going out and paying £4000 to £4500 for bikes like that every week. Let them get on with it is what I say as you will make a nice sum out of them when you come to sell in a couple of years. Go out and get a new one if the seller won't drop. |

I would not pay anymore than £3'800 for a gixxer with that mileage. You can do much better than 12k on teh clock if you look around. Mate just bouht two ZX636 B1H's. Both 2004 one with 3'500 miles and the other with 6'500. Both were mint and he paid £3'700 and £3'400 respectively. Bargain.
