Default Is battery charging?

I bougth a new battery for my SV650 K3 which now starts fine, but how do I know if it is charging? I revved it in neutral and the headlight strength didn't change, is that bad? What is bust if it isn't charging?

ta.

if you are still having a problem, do a search on regulator / rectifier or reg/ rec.

this topic has been covered before.

Cheers Mark.

To tell if it's charging fire her up then put a multimeter across the terminals of the battery. It should read 14V give or take if it's charging. If it's 12 or less then it's probably not charging. But as Warthog says there are other things to check.

Covered a hundred times.

Ah sorry if it has been covered, I didn't know what a reg/rec was, so I wouldn't have thought about searching for it

Cheers for the responses anyway.

no worries, you'll find the checking method, after that, if you still have problems let us know.

Cheers Mark.

Yes my started motor would barely turn over to begin with. New battery works fine now, so just testing to see if it was charging. Multimeter resutls are:

Bike off, just battery = 13.01 V
Bike on idling (headlight always on, K3 model) = 14.5 V
Revving = 14.5 V (no change)
Bike off, just battery = 12.5 V

So it seems to be charging off idling, but not having an effect when revved. Is that ok?

well, going off those numbers it all seems fine..... but, a charging problem is never that simple.
i found my battery was very gradually losing charge and it turned out to be the reg/rec.

I got one of these 2nd hand for £15 off a very nice fella on this site.

this site will be your best friend if your new battery goes flat (like mine did)
