Default Train fares double — outrageous!

Can you seriously believe a Labour government is so anti-populace? Train fares to double on some routes and Cheap Day Returns times to become draconian:

Mr Darling said that his decision to award the Thameslink/Great Northern franchise to First would “deliver better services to passengers”. He continued: “There will be increased capacity into London during peak times, enhanced facilities for passengers on board trains and at stations and reliability will improve.” Mr Darling made no mention of fare increases even though First had made clear to the department that the £800 million it was paying over nine years to run the franchise depended on restricting cheap tickets.

Yeah, you would've thought the best way to reduce overcrowding would be to put on more and/or bigger trains.

Ex-socialists (if Blair ever was regardless of what he told Foot) doing secret deals that burdens the average working person? Hmmm, almost as sad as when the pigs sold Boxer in Animal Farm.

Trains?

Are they there for a service or to make money?

I though Blair wanted more on the trains and less on the roads.

No...he isn't a socialist then...but then I knew that a long time ago.

Odd that in his student days, he would have protested against his own policies.

The idealism of youth.

What the HELL are they expecting people to do??? Fuel is extortionate, because they want to force people onto public transport... but now they're trying to force people off it to deal with overcrowding??? I'm utterly gobsmacked... The lot of 'em need taking out back and putting out of our misery.

I say force companies to let people work from home if it's practical. I wouldn't travel into London if I didn't have to. Up the workers!!! er.... well, not literally obviously...

From home to London on the train its something like £100 plus, if I take the bike, its costs me about £6 to fill up at gateway. and coming home about £8 (I tend to go a bit faster home! )

In total never more than £20 a day, and its normaly cheaper than that, so in summary always taking the bike since its damm cheaper than the train. Mind you there are times when I would love to get up late (welll for me) and be on the 7am train into work, it ould be lovely.

But hell, I always have a smile on my face coming in on the bike.

Rich

P.S. If the cost of living keeps going up the wages have to compensate, but I won't hold my breath!

At this rate you may as well bring back steam engines - at least then we had a rail network the world envied and it gave trainspotters something cool to look at.

They are overall, hence a rise in inflation. This is something the government should be trying to prevent of course, but are infact encoraging by taxing the hell out of everyone, including the poor.

Labour arent for the low paid worker, they certainly arent for the high paid worker - seems like the only people they're for are the non workers
