If it has two lines on the white bit, then its called an expansion tank and there should be enough coolant in it to the bottom of the 2 lines.

Exactly! Should be on the right hand side when looking from the riders seat.

Top it up with coolant when needed. Make sure the coolant is between the two markers.

Coolant 'expansion' tank....says it all really.

I have a '99 bike. I can't see the coolant level through the window on mine. It's there though; but the window is now rather opaque.

As has been explained top the expansion tank up to between the marks. Whilst you are at it, pop the radiator cap off and fill the radiator to the brim. Make a note of how much water it takes to fill. It shouldn’t be much (if any) if it takes a cupful or more, then make sure you don’t have a coolant leak somewhere.

Get a torch in there, and shine the light from behind and then look. Its awkward but it will work if tis opaque
