I need to add a number plate light due to me having an aftermarket undertray to get my bike through the MOT. Now I can't figure out how to wire it up. In the original undertray how is the number plate light connected. Is there a separate connector for it or does it share the one for the rear light? If it shares the one for the rear light I can't figure out how I can connect the new wires for the plate light to the same connector unless I have to take the pins out and do it like that??
I have noticed another connector in there which is spare put the connector looks odd, it's got 3 black/white wires going into it and one black one and the connector has 3 spaces for pins and underneath is a small metal plate, bit of an odd connector but I'm guessing this isn't for the number plate light. Any help much appreciated, I need to get this done for my MOT by the end of this month ![]() |

Not actually taken mine apart yet but am doing this weekend to fit a tailtidy and new indicators. I've pulled out the wiring diagram for the bike and it shows a separate connector for the number plate light.
The wires are a Brown (Br) and a Black with white tracer (B/W). If you find these two wires going to an empty plug or hanging loose under there then those are the wires you need to hook up to. Looking at the wiring though the Brown wire for the number plate light is connected in parallel with the Brown wire for the rear light and the B/W wire with the indicator B/W wires. so if you can't find the plug or the old wires/connector anywhere you can just splice the number plate live (Brown) onto the rear light live wire (Brown) and the neutral 0V (B/W) wire for the indicators. You'll find the wiring diagram on the internet or on this website somewhere if you do a search on it. This other plug you've found, is it under the rear seat on the LHS as you look from behind the bike? If so this could be the diagnosis plug that the dealer plugs into to get error codes I believe (correct me if I'm wrong anyone) |

There should be a seperate connector either a white or grey plastic clip connector (there should only be one spare wire).
I had the same thing recently with MOT & undertray, i fashioned a new bracket to hold the full size number plate and the orginal number plate light & surround. Great fun....not! |

I had a brief look around and couldnt find a connector so I just cut the connector off and soldered the new light straight on. I suppose you may be able to get one from Suzuki though but probably at a price!!!

Reckon you'll struggle to get a connector to match without paying through the nose from suzuki.
Probably best off buying some bullet or spade connectors for halfords/B&Q or something then using electrical tape and self amalgamating tape over it. Only problem with soldering them is if you ever need to take the rear off the bike you'd have to cut them, best off having some kind of connector in there to allow removal of the tail unit. you can get pre-insulated bullet connectors that'd do the job from most hardware shops that stock electrical parts, or online with RS components. they have a bare male bullet and fully insulated female plug which can just get crimped onto the wires. |
