I have just ridden 700 miles over 2 days to the South of France. Towards the end of the journey on the first day the bike started juddering at approx 70mph. We checked the chain tension and adjusted it which seemed to do the trick until...
after riding through torrential rain I noticed; 1. The juddering was back but the chain tension was fine. 2. The bike will now not go above 80mph with a fully open throttle and has a lack of power pulling from any speed in any gear, and it feels like the choke is on (but it isn't!) 3. The fuel light flashed on intermittently after only 70 miles. I have adjusted the cable that is at the front of the throttle body to see if the throttle cable has stretched (I haven't tried the bike on the road yet with this adjustment) but without the Haynes Manual, I don't know what the other cable is at the back of the throttle body and I'm not sure if this needs adjusting as well. Is this a throttle return cable? Does anyone have any other ideas or should I pop down to the local Suzuki garage?! Many thanks in advance Sophie ![]() ![]() |

I'm not mechanically minded, I would check your brakes as it sounds like something is slowing you down and causing you to use more fuel.
Doh! I'm stating the obvious on the last 2 points. |

Was the bike fine when it was dry ? If the juddering has started since you've been riding in the rain. I would suggest that perhaps you've fallen fowl to the SV achillies heel and that you have got a wet front spark plug ?

Sound like a possible front cylinder problem, particularly with the lack of power and the mention of torrential rain. Fuel consumption will be high because the front cylinder is not firing and therefore spitting out unburnt fuel without extracting any power from it.
Pull the front spark plug and dry both it and the hole it goes into. Spray generous amounts of WD40 over the plug cap and ensure that it's fully seated upon refitting. Also check the small drain hole on the right hand side of the front cylinder which allows water to drain (funnily enough) from where the plug goes in (and water collects). If you can pick one up at a friendly dealer, a "Fenda Extenda" (short extension for the front mudguard which screws on) will help by reducing the spray kicked up by the front tyre. This normally goes straight onto the front plug causing the problem you mention. Cheers, Garry |

I'd agree with Fizz and "Indiesnap" but be warned that, if you have covered a lot of miles with the condition, you may well have fouled that front plug beyond its ability to fire itself up and clean itself off - it may well need replacing. If that does the trick, don't pass up on the fender-extender, and you definitely still should soak everything with WD40! If you don't, it'll likely do it again...

Thanks all... it does sound like the spark plug could indeed be the problem.
Will investigate first thing in the morning and will go and buy a nice French Fenda Extenda from the local Suzi dealer! |

And when you put the plug cap back on make sure its on tight and well smeared with grease. Just doing that was enough on a few IIRC. (if curveys have the little plug cap that is..)

If that does'nt cure it look at your choke cables.If one has siezed it will cause the choke to stick on and cause similar symptoms.
