Right now i am 17, i have my own car (i love it) and i am lookin to get on a bike. I have already decided that any gsxr will be too much for a first bike. But i wanted to know if a SV650 would be right for a first bike. One of my friends has one and he said it was perfect, but i wanted some ore opinions on it. I would be looking at like a 2002. Insurance should only be like 130-150 right? i got a quote for 143, but i dont know how accrate it is since i didnt actually buy the policy. Anywayz my mom said it was fine that i get a bike. She had a gs1100 back in the day, my stepdad used to race, my grandparents used to ride, two of my stepbroters had bikes and my cousin has a bike...basicly its in the family. I am just looking for some good feedback on everything and maybe a price to look for so i dont pay too much. Thanks in advance. : )

Hi mate and welcome,
an SV650 for a first bike is very good in my opinion!! Bare in mind that you will have a restricted one (I assume due to age) that will give you all the time you need to learn to ride on big bikes. Insurance wise I'm surprised is so low! Which company did quote you? and was it only 3rd party? Price wise I cannot advise you as I got mine new but i'm sure if you have a look at the for sale section there will be plenty of good examples. Best of luck with your search |

As others have said, the SV makes a good first bike. Its my first big bike and I don't have much experience, but I'm loving it so far! |

Hello & welcome
The insurance question is completely subjective as it depends on where you live, what security you have, your age, your experience etc. and even then with exactly the same details, different insurance companies will quote you different amounts! I'm guessing at 150 pounds you don't live in London like Dirk does! |

Mine has only just come in at £150 and that is garaged and alarmed with 4 years no claims.
