I have a K5 and I was never told there was a cat on it and it's not in the manual or any of the literature that came with it, could be wrong tho

i am also made to belive that the cat is in the bottom part of the original can thats why when you cut it off you realize how heavy it is.

Looked in the Haynes Manual, it says FI models have a three-way cat in the silencer, if the bike develops a misfire do not ride it or as little as poss until you fix it.
