Default New SV owner

Hi all,

I passed my test Wednesday at 9:10 and went straight to the dealer and brought a new SV650s buy about 10:00. I have asked for a Scott oilier to be put onto the bike. (I plan to ride in the winter).
What else would you recommend as a must have accessory for a new bile ?

Welcome to the madhouse!

MUST haves:
- Some sort of oiler (you've done this one)
- Physical security, read RiDE for reviews of chains/disc locks, and always try to chain your bike to something that can't be moved. If you don't, one day you'll go to get on your bike, and realise it's no longer where you left it. Sad fact of modern biking.

Preferable options:
- Paddock stand
- Crash bungs
- Double bubble (apparently improves MPG but have yet to put that to the test)

EDIT: Later additions:
- A better can
- better tyres than the stock plastic. My 220's are getting shockingly bad in the wet!

Other things, are down to your personal choice, and how much you'll be riding. Either that, or I can't think of anything else anyway.

One point though, a chain oiler system extends chain life, doesn't matter if you ride in summer only or not, they're generally a great thing to have!

I have 2 Hein Gericke water proof outfits. One to dry one to ride in!
A U lock and the huge chain.

what about heated grips , Does anyone have any views on them ?

If you can afford them, get the heated grips, fantastic invention and work amazingly well.

For the bike, can't imagine you need anything else other than a front fender extender which IS essential. Perhaps a rear hugger if you don't want the underneath of the bike to get plastered in road crap.

hi and welcome,

Fender extender is needed if your going to be in the wet.

You might want to change the exhaust as well, and get rid of the "snow shovel" on the back.
