dealer trade-ins - SV650.org

Just wondering what sort of price dealers offer to PX bikes on new models? Does it work as a percentage of the price they would sell it at i.e they will buy it at 30% less than they will sell it for?

Spoke to one chap over the phone today, but am wondering whether it is worth giving up my lunch hour tomorrow to be told that they will offer peanuts for my bike or the flip side, don't want to spend money on a bike trader ad if I can get something I'm reasonably happy with.

Bike is a 9000 miles SVS K3. Obviously this is a fairly subjective post, but any indication of a figure would be much appreciated. I'm assuming that attaching all the stock items would be a good idea (to sell the mods separately)

i take it you meant 2000??i had a very nice k1 on a y plate 2001 svs 12000 mls and was offered £1650 for mine from a dealer on a £3000 cbr!!i could have got him up a bit but not a lot,,needless to say i never took it .theres a lot of factors regarding a trade -in price but in general theyr out to make as much profit as they can my advice ,,,dont waste your time

Although tradeins normally don’t give you much for your bike, sometimes dealers will give you a good deal on your bike to try and encourage a sale (they are making money on the new bike), it has to be worth asking, there might only be a couple of hundred in it, at which point you have to ask yourself is it worth the hassle of trying to sell the bike yourself?

Not quite applicable in this case, but an example is when car dealers will give you a minimum trade in on your car. i.e. you can take a pile of junk in and they will give you £1000 for it. Even though the will scrap/auction your car they know they are making their money on the new one.

Like I said it has to be worth an ask. They should be able to give you some rough numbers over the phone, so try that first.

they are in business, bought my last 2 of last 3 bikes off people who had been offered a trade in from dealers, bought each for around £100 more than dealer offered, giving me and seller a better deal.
thinking about a triumph st one of my customers is selling at the mo, dealer offered him £3100, but is selling same for £4500!! he would take £3300 from me.

Quick look in Ride, says a K3 is worth £2495PT/X, £2730 Private, I'm guessing the 9000 means how many miles it's done and I have no idea how that will affect price.

Seriously, I have always planned on changing it next year to something SS600-ish, and because of this, I don't want to spend any money on it anymore. You know we were talking rearsets - well i'm think "yes they would be nice, but I'm going to change it next year so why bother". Also my reasons and what I enjoy about biking have changed a lot. Commuting and using it as a form of transport has lost it appeal whereas track riding and rides at the weekend is now what I enjoy - so I'm looking for something more focused towards that.

There's no definitive answer as it's so bike dependent. Dealers want to see a good condition bike, all standard with no anodized tat, original exhaust and no rust. If you think your bike would look out of place in a showroom, so will they and will offer accordingly.

A dealer recently offered me the same for my bike as I paid for it a year ago because it's almost mint. A streetfightered-up rattle bag of the same age might not get a look in!
