BMC filter allows slightly better air flow.. and you could get your ECU remaped at somewhere like steve jordans basically rejets to the bikes specs i.e. no need for a power commander.. and a lot cheaper.

Where you based?

Lift you petrol tank with some spacers to let more air in.

You can spend lots of money for very little gain on both bikes. The most you will get from a std bore engine with can, jets, cams, filter etc, is about 80hp at the crank or there abouts.

I would say 1st off, dump the blue flame can, as they can be known to rob power. Get a full system, from the likes of Micron/M4, BMC race filter, Dynojet kit set up for that system, then get some cams (Northwind will tell you which set) and thats about as far as you can take a stock SV (Curvey model)

If you have the pointy model, then the same, but with a remap as well. Possibly about 85hp at the crank or there abouts.

If you want more, then there are big bore kits from the likes of JHS racing in bristol, but it'll be cheaper and more relaible to get a more powerful bike imho

Buy a more powerful bike.

Seriously, you can spend hundreds (even thousands) on getting just a few more hp from an SV. If you need more power, you're much better off putting the money towards a new bike. You could pick up an SV thou quite cheaply which has lots more power than the 650. Or a used Triumph Daytona, Falco or (gods forbid) an IL4.

IL4 cheap? Tha'll be a 1998 R1 then. Or a fireblade. Or whatever really.

Its not to hard to get a few extra BHP out of an SV, or any bike for that matter. When i think about engine tuning, i think along the lines of "more air in, more exhaust gases out, more power". A good full exhaust system can gain you power well, as can the right carburation. You can get more expensive and lob in light engine internals, which can gain revs aswell as BHP. There are also big-bore kits (I think as far as 800cc? im probably wrong on this!)

But if you want to go really fast

Concentrate on your cornering The faster through the bend you come, and the earlier on the power you get, the faster you'll be along the straight parts

Dont forget aswell to upgrade suspension and brakes if you make a big increase in power.

Good luck,

Matt
