I got 3 points on my licence on the 21st Oct 2001....
a) How long do they stay on the licence for? b) I'm moving soon, so I'll be changing addresses... Will the points still be on the licence when I get it back? c) Do you have to pay for the points to be removed? thank you in advance for any info. Richie numbers.

4 years & they get wiped once you get a new licence.
At least that's what happened to me! ...but I also changed my name too so "they" couldn't find me. Dirk |

As he says. They should indeed be gone when you get your license back. If you'd not been changing the address at the same time, then you'd be paying, otherwise it's free.

When you move, fill out the change of address, kick back, await your new licence arriving in the post.
The posties have a terrible habbit of stealing points from licences, and they WILL do the same to you! |

On a "points on licence" note, I just found out that the 6 points and (what I assumed was an SP60) the courts have given me is actually an SP30 on my licence! Result.
Quite how you get an SP30 for 32 over the posted limit, I don't know, but it baffled the police officer looking at it. ![]() |

SP60 is rarely handed out, it's an unspecified speeding offence.
SP30 is "Exceeding statutory speed limit on a public road". Common misconception that SP30 relates to 30mph zones. |

Richie, AFAIK the points are technically gone after 3 yrs, regardless of whether they are still physically written on your counterpart document.
BUT some insurers ask for any motoring convictions within the past 5 years - watch out for this one! My dad had his insurance cancelled at one point cos he didn't declare an SP30 that was 4 years old... |
