OK I've been recommended this book and I'm getting marmite like reviews on it (Love it or Hate it) and was wondering if anyon else has read it

Yes.
![]() I suspect 'Marmite like reviews' sums it up nicely. |

it's not really much about motorcycle maintenance
or zen ^ the back cover says something along these lines also I like it, but I definitely understand why people don't, it can be pretty heavy going in places. especially if you were expecting something Haynes-esque ![]() |

I read it when I was a teenager (I didn't get out much...) I really enjoyed it!
![]() I seem to remeber one guy had a ratty old Triumph and the other some spanking new BMW. One was perpetually tinkering to keep the Trumpet going, whilst 'Fritz' spent his time reviewing his schedule for invading europe on the Beamer. One was going to get there for sure, the other was enjoying the journey....very Zen ![]() ![]() Is that the book? ![]() |

Currently on about page 300, I'm liking it but I'm concerned the author might do something that I don't want him to, so I'm reserving judgment at the moment.

Be aware that it was written in the 70's. Still relevant today, but it's more literature than motorcycling. The motorcycles bit is a metaphor for modern life.
It's a good book, definitely worth reading. One of those book you "should" read. |

Heh I gathered from the reviews that it wasn't going to be a humours Haynes manual, I'll give it a flick through then as soon as It arrives.
Wasn't expecting so many people to reply as having read it so fast |

I wasn't too impressed... It's very confused in places. But then, it is more or less a true story, and real life tends to be like that.
