Default 'puter problem

I've lost the sound on my 'puter. I've checked the wiring to the speakers and everything looks ok there. The only changes that have been made recently was upgrading to internet explorer 7.0. The problem hs arisen since then.

Any ideas as to why this has happened? Could to two be connected? How do I fix it??

If this is only happening when you go to a web site with sound then it could be you've got the :

Menu option: Tool -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> "play sounds in Web Pages" tick box unticked.

If this is happening all the time i.e. when attempting to listen to your favourite Bananarama CD then in your sytem tray on the desktop, look for the Speaker icon, select this then unselect the Tick box that say's, "Mute".

There is no speaker icon in the system tray (assuming this is the collection of icons at the bottom right of the screen)

Many thanks. The speaker icon now resides bottom right. Clicking on it shows the mute box to be empty.

Double click on the speaker icon and check that the Wave is not muted and the level is turned up.

Is the volume level set high enough?

Also, stupid questions I know but....is the volume for the speakers high enough? Are the speakers turned on? Is the speaker cable going into the correct socket in the PC?

Non of the boxes are ticked (5 in total), and all the levels are at 3/4 max

Speakers are on (evidenced by calming blue light), cable connected correctly (green Jack plug to green socket), all volumes at 3/4 max.

OK rule out IE7 by installing it and going back to your previous version of IE.

I doubt its the IE7 ugprade though, What version of Windows are you running. Let me guess last time it worked fine and then you shut your computer down and powered it off and it hasnt worked fine since.

If so I'd wager that you soundcard has a hardware fault and its broken. Either that or the soundcard drivers want re-installing.
