Default New Job,

Started my new job in the same company this week. I was training to be an Maintenance Electrical Tech. Now apparently they want me to concentrate solely on the instrumentation and become an Instrument Artificer.

Still have to finish HNC and have the option to do HND and Degree but not sure if it is a promotion or just a title to do the jobs no-one else wants to do.

Anyone else do a similar job? I'm worried is this going to narrow my career possibilities in the future or increase them as I'm becoming more specialized. The majority of work will be on gas analysers, pressure/temp tx and level sensors.

Just read what I have written and it sounds like it should start, Dear Deidre.

so, Dear .Org.....

My advice is whatever job decision you take, keep on working towards your education. This could prove a valuable asset to your future choice of employment.

Work on a chemical plant per chance? Or refinery?

Now a days the instruments/DCS are vital to any plant, so as long as you try and keep in with what the instruments are interfacing with you'll still have plenty of opportunities I reckon. And it's always good to master one thing, then you can set out and master evrything else!
