Default Joining the bike video masses

As the title, I've decided to join the "bikers who shoot video" crowd.

I've had a bit of a poke around, and for what I'll use it for (sunshine bimbles around the welsh countryside), most systems seem pretty damn expensive IMO.

My priorities are to get a reasonable video (I don't mind a little pixilation), at a reasonable frame rate (17fps+), and a reasonable amount of storage. I'm also looking to spend as little as possible at the moment. If I use it a fair amount, I'll fork out more and quite possibly, stick a few cameras on the bike, but not right now.

I have ordered a 3MP digital camera to play with, because I found it dirt cheap, and I can make my own mount for it etc. This ticks all the boxes as far as I can see, 19fps, takes SD cards. It's also cheap enough that if it doesn't work, I can see it on & probably make a profit!

Does anyone have any advice/pointers on the subject as a whole? Bare in mind though, that I want to spend as little as possible & I'm more than prepared to hack a solution.

Shooting video on the AR could be interesting

I don't like the idea of tape on paint. Might not damage anything, but I'd rather not risk it personally. I'd rather super tight bungee a base (polystyrene or otherwise) to the bike, and gaffer tape the camera to the base.

*Information shamelessly nicked from Sv Thou Site*

If you've seen the videos of the Coast Road, and the Andorra road that were put on here over the past couple of days (U really should btw!), these were filmed using an old Panasonic NVGS75. The mount came from www.tailtidy.com for about £30.

The Video quality isn't great as it had to be reduced to fit the size limitations of google video.

Hope that helps!

Mate has a 'bullet cam' that he uses for MTB. Small DV camera goes in his bum-bag and bullet lens thingy goes on his helmet. Can be shaky and slow to react to changes in lighting. BUT this setup could go on the bike, camera under seat / tank bag / tail pack, bullet cam mounted on fairing / mirror / indicator. Jelster posted a link to some vidoe he shot using a bullet cam mounted on his fairing somehwere, cannot find the link right now though.

When bike back in one piece will borrow mate's setup for 'trials'

I use ATC1000 on my trackbike, its an all-in-one setup ~£130

ATC1000 Example ATC footage

Minimoto mate uses a remote 'bullet cam' ... remember this is low light conditions too ... Example bullet footage

The ATC is ok, but the quality is far superior on a bullet cam ... if you have a camera already (with AV in) then go for remote bullet cam its will cost about the same as the ATC just for the bullet ... if like me you don't then the ATC it is
