Default Laptop guru required.

I was booting am Omnibook and lifted it over to me, when the battery fell out; the machine went through a number of orange and green lights on the front and shut down.

Re-fitted the battery and now the screen is very dark (to the point of not being usable) so come on tell me what's bust? Can it be fixed?
(Oh and before anyone asks, yes I have turned the brightness all the way up).

I'm going to try it with an external monitor (easier said than done for me at the moment), but was hoping someone on here might have more of a clue than me?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers Mark

I can one think that the shock of the battery falling out has blown the graphics, as you have pointed out the next option would be to try a external monitor.

Sounds like the screen backlight.

Short of getting your hands on an identical machine with a working backlight but duff other bits, its pretty much beyond economical repair.

If machine is still ok apart from that hook up an external monitor, keyboard and mouse and use it as the base for a more traditional PC.

As grinch said, but not the graphics, i think the invertor has probably gone, mabey a google can get you a replacement, but considering the cost of new laptops it may not be worth it.

I've got a old omibook, just going to claim it on the contents insurance. £50 excess and the cost of some where to write a letter saying its beyond ecinomical repair.

Well external monitor works fine (using it now), so how do I tell if it's the backlight or invertrer (whatever that is ?).

Well the fact that you have a pic on the external monitor, says to me the invertor is fine. Looks like it could be the wiring to the back light for the screen, or the back light/screen has blown.

Do you have contents insurance?

How would it do that?? The invertor is what steps up the voltage for the backlight and controls the brightness.

Well looking at a 6000 model on ebay finishing in a couple of hours, motherboard problem, currently at £20, worth a punt for the screen or not ?

(what does an invertor do then ?)

Cheers Mark.

ok, striped the screen out, got a screen and a small circuit board that plugs inline (about 1/2" x 2 1/2") is that the invertor ?

Cheers Mark.
