I work for one of the big national ones, I won't say which to avoid getting the forum in trouble, but TBH if you're after a system for your home, go with a local company that has a good reputation cos from my experience they are more likely to give you good customer service as they have a smaller, local custoemr base and will be keen to keep their reputation. The big firms are more interested in landing the big accounts for national high street companies and the like, and won't be as interested in keeping your custom.

If you're thinking of a monitored (police response etc) system then any installer will have to comply with the latest regulations and ACPO policy anyway, so their systems should be up to scratch.

If you want any more specific info on what to look for, drop me a PM.

We have a British Gas security system. It's not just a burglar alarm, there's a few smoke detectors too. It's remotely monitored, costs £25/month. It's a very good system. We've had a few probs but nothing terribly major and BG have sorted it quickly.

We've got the British Gas scheme for boiler repair etc at home and the service so far has been brilliant, so if the service is the same for their security systems then it's definitely worth a look

those british gas insurance's are mega money! i used to pay £15.99 a month for out heating insurance until i timed it by 12! £191.88 !! WTF
I had a new boiler fitted by another company and had the boiler company insurance @ £100 per year including a yearly service. thats a £90 saving.
i find british gas (centrica) good at what they do but very expencive.

we have a monitor'd alarm system too and i thought it would save me money on my house insurance but when my renewal came in Feb there was a clause saying they wouldn't pay out the first £250 of any contence claim because of having the alarm fitted? work that one out! so i had the alarm removed from the policy and my insurance went up £15.
